I am a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Derby. My research focuses on the addictive patterns of various behaviours, expecially disorders of the impulsive-compulsive spectrum. I am an active researcher with many published research papers and I have presented at international and national conferences. I am a member of the cyberpsychology research group and the higher education academy (HEA).
I lead and teach a module on cyberpsychology. I also teach on social psychology, addictive behaviours, and research methods. I also supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
My research interests focus on the area of addiction, cyberpsychology and social psychology. I am interested in the psychology of the Internet, social networking sites, smartphone use, mental health, online virtual environments, and behaviour change. I have made use of interviews and questionnaires to gather data and as such, I have skills in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. I have expertise in self-report methods (questionnaires, interviews) and online data collection. I am internationally known for my work in the area of technological and behavioural addictions. I have published many research papers and presented at well-known conferences. I regularly contribute to leading journals in my field as associate editor and reviewer. I have appeared on radio and TV programmes. In the past I have worked on consultancy projects for Activation Media Inc, Masterfoods plc, and Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
