About

I am currently a (0.5) Senior Lecturer in Strategic and Leadership Management in the Department  of Business and Management, Derby International Business School.

Teaching responsibilities

I am Module Leader responsible for delivering the Doctor of Administration (DBA) core module, Developing the Professional Self. I am also supervisor for three DBA Dissertation students, in the research areas of Strategic Leadership, Transformational Change, and Innovation.

Our DBA programme is an executive research degree designed specifically for business managers and professionals who wish to take the next stage in their career development by undertaking impactful business research that will add to the body of knowledge in their sector and profession.

I also deliver key sessions for the Help to Grow: Management Programme, including Digital Adoption; Internationalization and Winning New Markets; Vision, Mission and Values; Employee Engagement and Leading Change; High Performance Organizations; and Implementing Growth Plans.

The Help to Grow: Management programme is a practical training course accredited by the Small Business Charter (SBC), and is 90% Government funded. It is aimed at senior leaders in SMEs to provide them with the theories and tools to strengthen their leadership capabilities, and help stimulate business performance, resilience, and long-term growth.

Professional interests

My key interests are around developing and delivering a wide range of postgraduate and professional courses and workshops, with a strong focus on Strategy, Leadership, Change, and Innovation blending cutting-edge theory and research with best work-based practice.

Prior to becoming an academic I gained significant commercial experience in the financial services sector, achieving professional qualifications and running my own small consultancy. Therefore, an active interaction and knowledge exchange with Industry and the professions has been an integral part of my academic career, which has included senior leadership roles, such as Deputy Dean of the College of Business and Law, and Head of the Business School, at the University of Derby.

Other recent corporate leadership development programmes that I have been involved with include:

ESF Sustainable and Inclusive Leadership (SAIL) project for SMEs within the D2N2 LEP region, where I delivered workshops on implementing transformational change, and mentored several professionals in supervisory and managerial positions on developing their leadership practice, as well as supporting those identified as future leaders to support the long-term sustainability and strategic growth of their organisations.

Small Business Leadership Programme (SBLP), a fully-funded programme accredited by the Small Business Charter (SBC), and supported by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, where I advised and support some senior leaders in the Derby area to help them recover their organisations from the impact of COVID 19, and develop their potential strategic growth and productivity.
