About

I joined the University of Derby in September 2016, and I am currently Deputy Dean of the College of Business, Law and Social Science and Head of Derby Business School, with responsibility for advancing the academic strategic development and direction of the College, as well as delivering a supportive, dynamic and forward looking teaching, research and enterprise environment for both staff and students.

I am also a Visiting Professor at Sunwah International Business School (SWIBS), Liaoning University, Shenyang, China, and have extensive international experience in China, and across Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Southern Africa.

I have held several External Examiner positions, and am currently an external examiner for Edinburgh Napier University, the University of the West England (UWE), and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Teaching responsibilities

Through my career in academia I have continued to teach at all levels from undergraduate through to postgraduate and executive. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE).

My main teaching interests are in International Education, Strategic Management and Leadership, Management 4.0, Risk Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Work-Based Learning.

During my academic career I have held a wide range of roles including Head of Business School, Head of Studies, Head of Postgraduate Studies, Director of International Strategy, MBA Programme Director, MSc International Business Programme Leader, and Business Subject Leader.

In addition, I have successfully supervised many PhD, MBA, and MSc research projects and dissertations across a wide range of management topics, whilst I also continue to act as a Personal Academic Tutor.

Qualifications

Experience in industry

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and a Chartered Insurance Risk Manager, having worked in the financial sector, including running my own consultancy, before embarking on an academic career.

I regularly work with a wide range of corporate clients in areas such as strategy, leadership, and internationalisation, and have been academic lead for several successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
