Professor Lu Liu is the Professor of Distributed Computing. Professor Liu received his PhD degree from Surrey Space Centre in the University of Surrey (funded by DIF DTC) and MSc in Data Communication Systems from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering in Brunel University. Professor Liu joined the University of Derby as a Senior Lecturer and became the Reader in Distributed Computing two years later. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer in Middlesex University, London, UK. Professor Liu worked as a Research Fellow at the WRG e-Science Centre in the University of Leeds on the EPSRC/BAE funded NECTISE Project and the CoLaB Project which was jointly funded by the EPSRC and the China-863 Program.

Professor Liu's research interests are in areas of cloud computing, service computing, data analytics, Internet of Things, peer-to-peer computing and social computing. Professor Liu has over 150 scientific publications in reputable journals (e.g. IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Service Computing, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing, ACM Transactions on Internet Technology, ACM Transactions on Embedded Computing Systems), academic books and international conferences. Professor Liu has secured many research projects which are supported by UK research councils, BIS, Innovate UK, British Council and leading UK industries. Professor Liu was recognised as a Promising Researcher by the University of Derby in 2011 and received BCL Faculty Research Award in 2012.

Professor Liu is a Fellow of BCS (British Computer Society). He serves as an Editorial Board member of 6 international journals and the Guest Editor for 9 international journals. He has chaired over 30 international conference/workshops and presently or formerly serves as the program committee member for over 60 international conferences and workshops.
