I work at the University as a Learning Technologist with a focus on curriculum development and digital practice. I work on strategic projects which focus on enhancing learning and teaching at the University, helping to provide advice and guidance on how technology can help to enhance these practices.

I also work with academic staff to develop their digital practices and digital capabilities, which in turn enables them to enhance the curriculum to include engaging learning activities for their students. I currently work with the College of Health and Social Care, helping to see how technology can support reflective practice, simulated practice and active learning. I have a particular interest in virtual and augmented reality, ePortfolios and inclusive approaches with technology.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach sessions on the Post Graduate Certificate for Higher Education, helping students to explore technology-enhanced learning (TEL), how they can develop their digital practice and encourage their own students to enhance their digital capabilities while studying at the university.

Professional interests

I am an active member within the TEL community where I currently co-chair ALT Regional Interests Group for the East Midlands (East Midlands Learning Technologists’) where I organise and run face-to-face events helping to share practice with TEL in the East Midlands. I am also an active member of the UCISA (Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association) Digital Education Group where I have led on the running of a successful national event on lecture capture and contributed to the analysis and publication of the national UCISA TEL Survey 2018. 

Research interests

I am interested in research on how technology can aid learning, teaching and assessment. I have previously contributed to a project funded by HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) that examines the role of learning analytics to help inform digital practice to aid with student engagement and the development of digital capabilities. I have also contributed to the analaysis and publication of the UCISA TEL Survey 2018 looking at current trends in TEL use within the Higher Education sector.

Recent conferences

I have presented on a wide number of topics related to technology-enhanced learning over the years, most recently these include: Inclusive practice; digital practice baselines; using the VLE Ally tool to aid inclusive practice; using analytics to inform digital practice; developing digital capabilities in the curriculum; and lecture capture. 

I have delivered the presentations to national and international audiences, at conferences such as the Association for Learning Technology, UK Inclusive Practice Network, UCISA Spotlight on Digital Capabilities and the Global Accessibility Awareness conference with Blackboard.
