About

I have worked at the University of Derby since 2002 after spending 4 years in the automotive and plastic manufacturing industries. Originally employed to look after the Advanced Manufacturing Workshops I have now been a full time academic since 2011. Currently I’m working as the programme leader for BSc Product Design Engineering and MSc Advanced Materials and Additive Manufacturing, and my interests have generally been related to the technologies which enable the design and manufacture of consumer products.

Leading the development of the Derby Makerspace - we are a founding member of MIT's Make Impact Consortium which aims to promote making and entrepreneurship globally.

Research interests

I have been working in the field of Additive Manufacturing since 2002 and this is currently my focus for research. Current projects are to investigate the integration of composite materials and additive manufactured structures for high performance applications. I have recently been involved in a KTP project conducting research in to lightweight structures used in the rail industry.

Additional interests and activities

Personal interests

I enjoy white water kayaking and winter sports and now have an opportunity to pass on my love of these sports to my 2 young boys.
