Derby grows its footprint in China
A delegation from the University of Shandong Jiaotong from China visited the University of Derby Kedleston Road Campus on the 8th July 2015.
Shandong Jiaotong University (SDJTU) is one of a number of universities identified by the British Council for the University of Derby as part of our strategic approach to the development of a multi-faceted partnerships in China. SDJTU was identified due to it being one of the few universities in China that specialises in all aspects of the Transport Industry including logistics and distribution, a particular strength of University of Derby’s Business School whose logistics and supply chain programmes are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and provide students with the opportunities to go on pplacements, internships, real-world consultancy projects and study abroad in this area.
The delegation met with the University’s Strategic Partnerships Unit and the College of Business to discuss how both institutions could develop their numerous synergies, not least their mutual commitments to employer engagement, demand-led programme portfolios and vocational (real world) learning agendas. The institutions discussed how staff from both institutions could benefit from activities such joint research co-operation, faculty mobility including guest lectures, teacher training opportunities on a summer school basis and explored the feasibilities of articulation agreement for specific programmes such as logistics, supply chain management and accounting and finance.
They have shown a particular interest in co-operating with our Centre for Supply Chain Improvement and after signing the MOU with Shandon’s Vice Chancellor, Peter Dewhurst, Director of the University Strategic Partnerships Unit said : We are delighted to engage on common projects with Shandong University who will not only provide outstanding opportunities for our staff but also enhance the Derby footprint in China, an area of strategic importance for the Partnerships Unit.
