How student Ellie was headhunted by Twitter

Student Ellie Kean has been able to put the skills she’s been learning on her BA (Hons) Marketing (PR and Advertising) degree into practice after being headhunted for a summer internship with Twitter.

From Derby to Global Business Marketing

After being headhunted on LinkedIn, Ellie spent her summer between second and third year working with Twitter as a Global Business Marketing intern for the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), working on sales enablement and content creation for events such as the Euros and Tokyo Olympics. 

"This experience really helped boost my motivation for my final year modules as I was able to experience first hand the exciting possibilities of where my degree might take me after graduation," she says.

Working with industry

Ellie chose to study with us due to both the industry experience of our lectures, and the opportunity to work on live industry briefs as part of the course, enabling her to gain real-world experience in marketing before she graduated. Ellie says:

She says: "The creative freedom of the modules and assignments available has been really useful in creating a unique portfolio to showcase to interviewers. Being able to choose your own companies and focus areas for different assignments allows you to produce creative content that might be specific to the industry area you wish to go in after graduating."

A clear plan

Thanks to the experience on her course, and having the chance to work in industry, Ellie now has a clear plan for the future. She has a graduate role lined up to begin in September after she graduates as a Sub Editor/Copywriter at Bet365 within their design and publishing team.

Ellie’s future goals include working for a global marketing agency, where she can work on a range of different briefs for companies in different industries, which Ellie feels is much more achievable due to her experiences on the course.
