Kate's story video transcript

Kate Henry, BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing graduate:

[Kate is in a hospital ward in her nursing uniform]

Caring is a passion of mine, it just comes naturally. I know I'm a very giving person and I like to help people, I've always known that.

[Kate, in casual clothes, walks through the Atrium at our Kedleston Road campus and sits working on a laptop in a communal area]

The University of Derby provided me with the information and resilience to become the best nurse that I could be. The tutors pushed me academically and made me realise the gift that I had. Training to be a nurse and being on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life.

[Kate cares for a patient lying in a hospital bed. She uses a blood-pressure cuff]

Now, as I begin my career as a fully registered nurse I will make a difference to those who I care for.

If I can make my patients smile and improve their quality of life, support them and their families and hold their hand in a time of need, I will have made my difference to the world.
