Outdoor and Adventure Sport Undergraduate Courses

Turn your passion for the outdoors into a successful career in a rapidly evolving industry promoting quality of life through challenging activities.

Based at our Buxton Campus, within a rope’s throw of the Peak District National Park, we’ll equip you with an understanding of the natural environment, human physiology, and how to reduce risk through strong outdoor leadership.

You may also have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications such as NGB Awards in climbing, coaching and canoeing to strengthen your knowledge-base and applied experience, providing you with more to offer employers on graduation.

Our Outdoor and Adventure Sport courses are based at our very own Outdoor Leadership Centre, Oaklands Manor. Set in 55 acres of mixed woodlands, its main features include a 30 foot climbing wall, high and low rope courses and an artificial underground caving course. It’s the ideal setting for the next generation of outdoor leaders. You’ll build your own skills in outdoor activities but also gain experience of running our facility which is popular with corporate clients, children’s groups and outward bound enthusiasts.

Exciting Fieldtrips

Fieldtrips are one of the most exhilarating features of this course. Apart from regular excursions into the Peak District, our students have found themselves mountain biking in Snowdonia, sea cliff climbing on the Gower Peninsula, caving in the Yorkshire Dales, canoeing in Scotland or wild camping in the Lake District. There may be opportunities to head overseas too. Over the last two years, our students have pushed their abilities to the limit with ice climbing in Norway, sport climbing on the Greek island of Kalymnos and kayaking in Slovenia.

These experiences are also invaluable in helping you to achieve additional coaching qualifications in specific disciplines to add to your CV.
