What is Joint Honours?
A Joint Honours degree gives you the opportunity to study two subjects as one degree. This type of degree will broaden your skill set and enhance your career prospects.

Flexibility to specialise
At stage one, we introduce you to the fundamental principles of marketing, before focusing on communications during the second stage, including advertising methods and the media, and on market research and the processes involved in understanding customers and their behaviours.
Options are available throughout the course, depending on the pathway you choose, allowing you to specialise in the marketing field you find most suitable for your needs.
An optional placement year takes you from the lecture theatre to the studio, office or boardroom, which gives you the opportunity to be put in real business scenarios during your time with us.
The final stage is about shaping a sustainable marketing strategy for a customer-led organisation.

We use a wide range of teaching methods including formal lectures, problem-solving tutorials, seminar discussion groups, group and individual projects, and directed reading.
How you're assessed
We assess both your skills and knowledge. Assessment methods include infographics, theme boards, exhibitions, brochures, corporate reports, presentations and time constrained work.

For joint honours degree entry you will need to choose two subjects. The entry criteria here is for this subject only. Your offer will be based on the higher entry criteria from the two subjects you choose to do. A good application/performance will be taken into account if you do not meet the criteria/offer conditions.

You will typically study your two subjects equally at stage one, before choosing whether you want to major in one subject at stages two and three.

Like most universities, we operate extended teaching hours at the University of Derby, so contact time with your lecturers and tutors could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. Your timetable will usually be available on the website 24 hours after enrolment on to your course.
