University of Derby Students Take Part In Media Workshop video transcript

Academy players are shown wearing their branded kit talking to University of Derby students and being filmed on smartphones in tripods.

Sam Wilkinson, Partnership Accounts Manager at Derby County Football Club: We've got the University of Derby Football Journalism students, the level four so the first years, joining us today for a mixed zone interview. They're on the course that we run alongside the University and it's giving them good experience for interviewing within a football environment doing on the spot interviews, being creative and just echoing that experience that we offer for the students. So, we give a great opportunity for the students of the University, they get to come and witness real-world learning experiences so, coming here and doing the interviews and it really boasts the course that we offer with the University and a great experience for them over the course over the three years and gain their confidence, experience and much more with that.

Luke Banks, Derby County Football Club Academy player: I think it's massive, you know, you see players even straight after they've won, Sky Sports are interviewing them on the pitch, I think it's important to switch from that professional mindset to speak to an interviewer straight away after a win. The whole media stuff is massive, social media, talking in front of a camera as a footballer, the more practice you get, especially at a younger age being a scholar, obviously we've not made it to the first team yet but we're only going to get more exposed to it in the future, if we practice now then we'll be fine going forward.

Sara Grannes, University of Derby student: Today is kind of a mixed side experience for us to kind of get into the groove of interviews and get the opportunity to meet the Academy players, maybe getting some contacts in the future. I know someone in a previous year did a one-to-one with a player and now he's a Premier League footballer so it's kind of those opportunities, building contacts and building confidence really. They are really good interviewees and there have been no awkward moments, they've been really good at giving you answers and it's been really nice and really fun.

A Rams TV branded screen closes the video.
