As much as it's got to have a grounding
00:16
in theory, you cannot beat practice.

Here you'll get the opportunity to make
00:25
your dreams come true, you'll only be
00:26
limited by your imagination, not the
00:28
equipment.

I've worked within the
00:35
professional filmmaking industry for 15,
00:38
16, years. I've worked in the industry for
00:41
over three decades, and I worked on
00:43
various productions for the BBC, for Channel
00:46
4, for Sky One. My professional
00:49
experience is vast, I'm a multi
00:52
award-winning producer/director - BBC, ITV,
00:55
Channel 4, for all the main broadcasters
00:59
here in the UK. The experience I learned
01:02
during those years has translated
01:04
in such a way that I can give my
01:06
students real-world experience. It's
01:08
all about practice, it's all about being
01:12
there, and having done it - a lot of stuff
01:15
you can learn out of books, but actually
01:18
the process of practice is so important
01:20
to impart to students because that's what
01:22
people want to look at when they employ
01:25
you. They're very interested in that you can
01:27
actually get up and run with the
01:30
production, at the end of the day what
01:33
you put on the screen is what you're judged on.

Why come to Derby? One of the great
01:49
reasons is that we have fantastic
01:52
equipment, we have broadcast quality
01:54
equipment here, we have some of the most
01:56
outstanding facilities in the country.
01:58
I've never seen a better equipped
02:00
university, and in fact I've
02:02
worked on professional productions with less.
02:05

02:05
I believe Derby is a unique place to
02:08
come and learn, where you will learn from
02:11
people that are still active
02:13
practitioners. and they don't just talk
02:15
about being there. They're still actively
02:18
involved. I think it's really important
02:21
for you to look at what you get out of
02:23
the course,
02:24
and at the end of the day we want you to
02:27
have one of the best portfolios, with the
02:29
best equipment, only limited by your
02:31
ideas. My teaching style is very much to
02:33
make you part of the production team, not
02:35
students, I will teach you like
02:38
production staff, I will talk to you like
02:40
production staff, so you will learn how
02:44
to respond and how to react to
02:46
real-world situations. It's about coming
02:49
here, sharpening your elbows, and being the best that you can be.
