What is an Experience Day?

Our Experience Days are exclusive events tailored to students who have made an application or thinking of applying to study at the University of Derby. You'll get the chance to explore your course and future campus in more detail to get a true feeling for what it would be like to study here.

While you may have already visited us at one of our Open Days, our Experience Days are designed to help you at this exciting stage of your journey. You might have new questions for us to answer, be interested in finding out more about student accommodation, or perhaps need a little help with understanding student finance. 

Whatever you want to know or need support with, an Experience Day is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the University of Derby.

Our Experience Days are based at our Derby campus. If you have applied for a course based at our Chesterfield site, you are welcome to attend but please be mindful that the facilities differ.

What to expect at your Experience Day

• Welcome Talk: hear from a senior leader about life at Derby and next steps. Talks run at 9:30am and 12:00pm
• Interactive subject session: work on a brief or mini project for a taste of life on your course, led by our expert academics. Your session will be at 10:30am or 1:00pm depending on your group, which we will share with you in advance
• Parent talks: while students enjoy interactive subject sessions, parents will have an opportunity learn more about the course and ask questions
• Student life panel: join our current students, alumni and support teams at 11:30am or 1:00pm to learn about accommodation, finance, campus life and our Union of Students
• Develop with Derby: take part in a 30-minute session to build skills for university, including independent study, exam tips, checking sources and using evidence
• Tour accommodation: compare room options in our student halls, named Best University Housing (UK and Ireland) four years running in the Global Student Living Awards, and start mapping out what your new home from home could look like
• Explore our campus: go on a relaxed campus tour where one of our current students will show you the fantastic facilities you'll have access to here including our £10.8 million Sports Centre, four-storey library, student social hub Union Social Space and so much more
• Meet our Student Services and Union of Students: have a question about student finance? Want to know more about sports and societies? Our teams are here to answer any questions you might have
