Our FdA Post-14 Education and Training is suitable for you if you’re wishing to pursue a career in teaching in the Post-14 sector. You may be a new, in-service teacher, an aspiring teacher accessing voluntary teaching hours, or you may be an in-service teacher who has already completed a Certificate in Education or equivalent and wish to progress onto an FdA. You may be working or placed across the wider sector, including academies and schools (post-14), adult and community education, work-based learning, training providers, prisons or public services. This course is designed to develop teaching skills by helping trainees to reflect on their practice and development as a teacher.

How you will learn

You'll study through a mixture of theory and practical work, and reflect on your practice.

How you're assessed

You'll be assessed using your work-based activities, creative presentations, essays, discussion papers, case studies and portfolios. There are no exams.

Your personal academic tutor will work with you to help you get the most out of your time at university. Having someone to talk to about your academic progress, your university experience and your professional aspirations is hugely valuable. Additional information about your studies

Teaching hours

Like most universities, we operate extended teaching hours at the University of Derby, so contact time with your lecturers and tutors could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. Your timetable will usually be available on the website 24 hours after enrolment on to your course.

Please note: Our courses are refreshed and updated on a regular basis. If you are thinking about transferring onto this course (into the second year for example), you should contact the programme leader for the relevant course information as modules may vary from those shown on this page.
