• Strong research focus: A teaching team made up of active researchers, which will introduce you to the latest developments and innovative thinking. We place greater emphasis on relating the knowledge you have gained to scientific research, along with gaining the first-hand experience of laboratory research in the later stages of the course, conducting and reporting on substantial scientific investigations in a group and individually
• Invaluable placement opportunities: Between stages two and three of the course, you can apply to work in the industry or undertake an internship. Previously, our students have secured roles at the Leukaemia Research Foundation in London, Royal Derby Hospital, The Institute of Cancer Research in London and local pharmacies
• State-of-the-art laboratories: Newly-upgraded learning facilities include our Bioscience Superlab and high-specification laboratories with modern instrumentation and specialist containment facilities for the growth and manipulation of bacteria and viruses as well as the sequencing and characterisation of DNA. We also have an OMICS Facility.
• High professional standard: Benefit from quality learning with our BSc (Hons) Human Biology course, accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, and the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science.

Both courses give you access to high-specification laboratories with modern instrumentation and specialist containment facilities for the growth and manipulation of bacteria and viruses as well as the sequencing and characterisation of DNA.

Professional Experience

Our courses offer an ‘Industrial Placement Year’ giving you the opportunity to enhance your practical skills by putting theory into practice, network in your industry and stand out in the graduate job market. The placement year takes place in your third year. Once completed, you would return to the university to complete your final year studies.
