Short-term experiences

Turing Scheme funded short-term opportunities provided by the University of Derby are typically led by a College and offer a practical extension to a students’ degree studies. They are group activities varying in length between two and six weeks, usually in the summer months but also at other times.

Cost of living and travel grants are available, but a financial contribution from participants is also necessary.

Projects are currently running in the United States and Latin America, South and West Africa, India, China, South-East Asia, the Pacific Islands and Central Europe. The destinations and project objectives may be very different, but an exciting, shared adventure is guaranteed which can often profoundly alter participants’ world view.

A wide range of opportunities are offered each year, enabling students from across the University to apply.

Financial information

In most cases you will need to make a personal contribution to costs, but Turing Scheme Grants may be available, subject to Government approval each year.

Financial support

You may be able to apply for Turing Scheme Grant funding towards the cost-of-living expenses at a rate of at £17 to £23 per day, distributed by the University of Derby.

In addition, you may be able to receive additional Turing funding for one return flight and visa related costs if you qualify under certain criteria.
