University of Derby Assessment Centre (UDAC)

Please be aware that the University of Derby is moving all its teaching to remote delivery as of Monday 23rd March 2020.

In line with the above, the assessment centre including our outreach centres will be arranging all DSA Study Needs Assessments via remote delivery for the foreseeable future.

We are able to arrange appointments for Study Needs Assessments but they will no longer take place face-to-face at an assessment centre. Students have the option of an appointment by phone-call or by video-call. Additional information & instructions will be provided on the different types of remote delivery assessment platforms available & how students can access these.

Please let us know if you would like a face-to-face appointment when we re-open again. We will save your details & documents and will contact you directly to arrange an appointment as soon as we are able.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

For further guidance on looking after your mental health during the Coronavirus outbreak, Student Minds have published resources that are designed for people in the university community.

At the University of Derby Assessment Centre (UDAC) we carry out study needs assessments for UK students eligible for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) aiming to study here or at any other university.

DSA is funding that can help with equipment, assistive software, support workers and travel. Students must be able to provide formal evidence of their disability, to obtain permission to assess. UDAC will charge students a single assessment fee, which will cover all work required for the duration of course study.

The cost of the assessment will be £625, however, you do not need to pay this amount as the cost is met by your funding body.

You may be entitled to apply for DSA if you have:

Needs assessments take place at our Derby and Buxton campuses. We also have partnerships with other universities where assessments are carried out and issued through UDAC. If this is impractical, assessments may be conducted at alternative locations to meet the needs of the student.

For help with applying for DSA, please contact the Disability Officer at your university.

UDAC is a member of the National Network of Assessment Centres (NNAC).

Upon receiving formal approval to assess from your funding body, we're currently able to offer assessments to students within 15 working days of contact with UDAC.

Please email with the DSA1 eligibility letter from the funding body, the medical evidence that supports the DSA1 letter, the intended course name and institution name, a contact telephone number, and availability for an assessment.

We will send out a pre-assessment questionnaire (PAQ) for students to complete and return. The PAQ will allow the needs assessor to prepare for the DSA assessment and it helps them to complete the DSA report after the appointment too.
