Buxton Chaplaincy

The Chaplains are here to offer support, encouragement and a confidential listening ear to students of all faiths or none. We put on social events to help people make friends, organise times of prayer and worship and are here to help in any ways we can. Do call by – as Chaplains we’re particularly interested in the spiritual side of life, but we like getting to know students regardless of their beliefs. We love to talk, and we’re always looking for an excuse to put the kettle on!

You’ll find the Chaplaincy office at the top of Clarendon House, room CL301. If you’d prefer to make an appointment, please email us: Chaplains@derby.ac.uk

Ingrid Keith is the full-time Ecumenical Chaplain, joined by Yvonne Ripley, part-time lay Catholic Chaplain.  We share Imam Ali Akbar, the Muslim Chaplain, with the Derby Campus. We also work with the University’s Faith Consultant colleagues from different world religions, and can put students in touch with them.

Please note that during the Covid-19 pandemic we are not on campus and all our activities have gone on-line. For details of our prayer times, discussion groups and social events, please keep in touch through our Facebook Page.

In more normal times, Christian prayer is held on campus every week, and we have special celebrations for Christmas, Easter, etc.  Once everyone is back on campus, our small prayer room (CL306) will be open for staff and students of any faith to use.

We can also offer a leaflet with details of places of worship in Buxton and the surrounding area – Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish and Buddhist.
