Buxton Chaplaincy

We’re a friendly bunch of Chaplains from a range of different Christian backgrounds.  We’re here to offer support, encouragement and a confidential listening ear to anyone of all faiths and none.  We put on social events to help people make friends, organise times of prayer and worship and are here to help in any ways we can. Do call by – as Chaplains we’re particularly interested in the spiritual side of life, but we like getting to know students regardless of their beliefs, we love to talk, and we’re always looking for an excuse to put the kettle on!

You’ll find the Chaplaincy office at the top of Clarendon House, room CL301. If you’d prefer to make an appointment, please contact us on +44(0)1298 330376 or email us

The Chaplaincy team are:

Buxton has a wealth of student-friendly churches. The University campus itself doesn’t have a chapel, but we gather for 'Pit Stop Prayers' - prayers and sandwiches (provided by the Chaplaincy) every Tuesday, 12.30 to 1pm in room DO/115, off the Dome balcony. It’s brief and informal, and we encourage folk to send in prayer requests for anything that’s concerning them. Our small prayer room (CL306) is also open all the time for staff and students to use.

For important times like Remembrance Day, and for the Carol Service, we gather in the Dome. For Ascension Day, we try to get as high as we can and hold a short service in the Dome Bell Tower, from which we blow bubbles to symbolise our ascending prayers. There’s always something going on, so keep in touch through our Facebook Group

When teaching ends in the summer, we invite students to join us on a 48-hour retreat in an inspirational setting, when we focus on our relationship with God. Students enjoy being the guests of the Franciscans at Hilfield Friary in beautiful Dorset. It's a great place for prayer, reflection and joining in with the daily life of the community.
