Admission into the Special Constabulary - Policies - University of Derby

Admission into the Special Constabulary

If you have applied for BA (Hons) in Policing, please note that acceptance onto the programme does not guarantee a place with the Special Constabulary. You will be required to apply to be a Special Constable during your first two weeks of study.

Your application to the Specials will be judged on its own merits by a Police recruitment panel and their decision is final. Your application to the Special Constabulary needs to be successful by 31st December of the calendar year you commence your studies on the course, to continue on the Policing Programme.

If your application is unsuccessful or does not meet the time limit you will be transferred to BA (Hons) Policing and Investigations or if preferred BSc (Hons) Criminology. If you choose to withdraw at this point, up to 50% of the fee will still be payable.

Further Info on the requirements to become a Special Constable can be found here http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk/special-constables/index.html
