About

I am a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance and a CIMA-qualified Chartered Management Accountant with both industry and higher education experience. My teaching focuses on applying finance to real-world business challenges through engaging, practice-informed and strategically focused learning across undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education programmes.

Alongside my academic role, I serve as as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee for the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and also hold a school governor position, contributing to governance, financial oversight and strategic decision-making within the education sector.

Teaching responsibilities

My current teaching responsibilities focus primarily on the delivery and assessment of undergraduate accounting and finance modules within Derby International Business School. I teach across both second- and final-year programmes, with particular emphasis on management accounting, financial management, corporate finance and financial strategy.

Current responsibilities include planning and delivering lectures and seminars, developing assessment materials, marking and providing feedback, and supporting students through academic tutoring and dissertation supervision. My teaching incorporates applied business examples, contemporary financial issues and real-world case studies to strengthen student engagement and bridge the gap between theory and practice.

I currently lead the following undergraduate modules:

In addition to undergraduate teaching I also contribute to the delivery of a postgraduate certificate programme for a commercial organisation where I co-lead and co-deliver a module titled Finance and Leading Strategy.

Professional interests

My professional interests include financial strategy, management accounting, governance, leadership decision-making, student engagement in higher education, and the development of transformational and applied learning approaches that enhance employability and professional capability.

Research interests

My research interests focus on management accounting techniques within UK SMEs, particularly how accounting information supports operational and strategic decision-making in smaller organisations. I am also interested in financial literacy, including the development of financial understanding and commercial awareness within both educational and organisational settings, and how these capabilities influence decision-making, performance and long-term sustainability.
