I'm currently Programme Leader for BA Product Design.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach a range of modules that focus on practical and studio based studies in Industrial Design and Furniture Design, I also look after the Independent Studies aspect of the Product Design Programmes.

Professional interests

Areas include Industrial Design, Product Design and Furniture Design.

Research interests

I'm interested in the combination of traditional and modern materials in new product and furniture design.

Membership of professional bodies

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Acadamy.


Experience in industry

I graduated from Coventry in 1980 with a BA(Hons) degree in Industrial Design/Transportation, and worked as an in-house designer for TI Parkray, and the domestic appliance division of Glynwed International, I went on to manage industrial design for the Leisure, Flavel, Rayburn, Kholangaz, Coalbrookdale  and Aga brands before setting up ADDS in 1989. Conceived as a service for local industry ADDS became a design consultancy working on domestic and commercial products and retail display equipment for a range of local and internationally based companies. After gaining my PGCE in Design Technology I started lecturing in Product Design and running a series of product design related Teaching Company Schemes at the University of Derby in 1997.

Makerspace Bootcamp. Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Working with MIT to establish Makerspace culture at the University of Derby.
