About

I am one of the team of Midwifery Lecturers on the BSc and MSc Midwifery programme here at the University of Derby. As a team, we all teach across the whole curriculum, but given my professional experience in community settings, I specialise in infant feeding, safeguarding and perinatal mental health, along with bonding and attachment, and baby brain development.

My interests centre around infant feeding, particularly breastfeeding, and I serve as the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Lead for the Midwifery programme, promoting evidence-based, compassionate information in line with UNICEF BFI standards.

I am also deeply committed to interprofessional learning (IPL), currently acting as the IPL Lead and contributing to the IPL Working Group within the School of Health and Social Care. My aim is to foster collaborative learning environments that prepare students for positive and effective integrated healthcare practice.

Teaching responsibilities

As Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Lead for the Midwifery programme, my responsibility is to ensure that all up-to-date evidence base is included within the curriculum, from an introduction to infant feeding and responsive feeding practices and feeding cues, to positioning and attachment with the implications of non-compliance with the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes.
