I am Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Business Studies programme, which means that I am responsible for the success and progression of students on the progamme, including giving academic advice and pastoral support. I am responsible for recruitment, retention and student satisfaction on the programme.
I am also a Senior Lecturer, with teaching responsibilities across Derby Business School.
I am a Module Leader, for Research Methods for Business, International Business Economics and Strategy and Global Business and Strategy (Strategy), The Business Consultancy Project, and The Business Research Project.
I have sixteen years of experience in management, in a variety of private and public sector organisations. I am also an experienced trainer and consultant, able to work with organisations to effectively identify gaps in policy, processes and planning and offer workable solutions to make improvements, as well as recommending and carrying out appropriate staff training and development activities.
Prior to working for Derby Business School, I was the Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Events Management programme at the University of Derby, Buxton, combining my management experience with my events management experience at various organisations.
My viva for the submitted PhD: 'Three Discussions on Management: Learning, Co-Dependency, and Thinking/Doing: An Investigation into the Concept of Management through a Hospitality Management Lens' will take place in September 2018. My research interests are around a deeper understanding of the philosopy of management and the similarities and differences of its practice across different sectors. Other research interests include business ethics in turbulent times.

I have presented my PhD research at a number of conferences, including at THE INC (International Conference Tourism Hospitality and Events in a Changing World) Conference, on 27th June 2018 and AEME (Association for Event Management Education) Conference, on 15th July 2016.
Experience in industry
After graduation I worked in management positions. I worked for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (1997-2001), the Medical Research Council (2002-2004) and the University of Derby (2004-2012). I launched my own training and consultancy business in 2006, and provided training, development and consultancy services to a number of clients including medical registrars, managers in a police force, supervisors and managers in a steel company, small/owner managed businesses in North Derbyshire and the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
I'm an expert in strategic planning, project management (including events management), and human resource management. I'm also a recognised expert in managing university Clearing operations and major change and restructuring projects.
I work with the University's collaborative partners in Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Spain and Greece.
