I am a firm believer in the creation of innovative and creative module content which is evidenced by in a number of cases the use of posters, theme boards and infographics as media for assessments. This approach is designed not only to develop our students' knowledge of subject content, but also to help them develop their creative, innovative and employability skills in readiness for the work place.

I am currently module leader for "Marketing Fundamentals", a foundation module that is taught by myself and my module team across several of our undergraduate degree programmes, including BA (Hons) Marketing, BA (Hons) Business Management, BA (Hons) Business Studies and Higher National Diploma (HND). The module also runs under my leadership at Leek College, and at our collaborative provisions at Med College (Athens and Thessaloniki) and Malaysia. 

I am also a member of the module teaching teams that deliver our Ethics and Social Responsibility, and Branding modules.

As year Tutor for Year 1 BA (Hons) Business Management and Year 1 BA (Hons) business Studies (BABM and BABS) I am also module leader for "Professional Development 1." The module is a recent initiative which runs throughout the undergraduate academic year and seeks to help our students use the university-wide facilities in order to develop their study, networking and employability skills from day one at the University of Derby.

I am also Personal Tutor to a number of our BABM and Marketing students during their time here with us. This role involves regular meetings on a small group or one to one basis where the focus is on the student's overall progress and wellbeing.

I actively work with our College and Central Marketing Departments in the area of Outreach. This includes the organisation, delivery and coordination of various events with schools and colleges, which are held either on site at university or in some cases, off site at the individual school or college.

I am a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Research interests

My areas of interest centre around social media and digital marketing, with specific interest in the use of data visualisation, for example infographics, posters and theme boards etc., as media that enhances presentation, communication, learning, recall and retention skills in readiness for use in the work place.

Experience in industry

I spent more than 20 years in sales and marketing in manufacturing industry, during which time I held National Sales Management and Director positions with organisations including Dunlop, a Burmah-Castrol subsidiary as well as some smaller privately-owned companies, where I was responsible not just for sales and marketing, but also purchasing and new product development.

International experience

Have conducted business in the past in Germany, Italy and Scandanavia.
