About

I am a senior academic with a wealth of experience in curriculum leadership, academic quality assurance, and programme management in both HRM and business-related programmes. I am a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and maintain my own knowledge through contact with employers, People Professionals and through my professional membership.

I have proven expertise in fostering innovation in teaching and supporting inclusive learning environments, in particular with the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) both within the classroom and the workplace. In addition, I draw on my commercial experience in integrating experiential and reflective learning into curriculum design.

I am dedicated to developing high-quality, student-centred education that empowers diverse learners and enhances institutional impact within the higher education sector. I work in partnership with students to provide a supportive learning environment, drawing on my experience and teaching roles working with corporate clients.

Teaching responsibilities

I deliver classes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

I also supervise Masters level dissertations and Doctoral level research, both DBA and PhD.

Professional interests

  1. Artificial Intelligence usage in the workplace, specifically in Discipline and Grievance practices
  2. Employment Relations and Discrimination
  3. Human Resource Management
  4. Academic and Professional Skills Development, particularly in emerging technologies

Research interests

I am currently undertaking research around the use of Artificial Intelligence in relation to the Discipline and Grievance practices to support management understanding. Experience in industry

My professional background is rooted in the private sector, where I have developed expertise through roles in both warehousing and logistics, as well as positions with chartered surveyors. In these administrative roles, I managed a variety of responsibilities, including sourcing agency workers, providing essential supporting policies and documents, and deputising when required.

Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience in recruitment, engagement, and people management. My roles have often involved hiring processes, fostering employee engagement, and implementing effective training and development practices. These responsibilities have allowed me to build a strong foundation in supporting team growth and operational efficiency within diverse working environments.

International experience

I have previously worked on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) experiences at Coventry University and continue to support colleagues here at the University of Derby to engage with these experiences to support students.

I work closely with our collaborative partner in Greece for the MSc in HRM programme to ensure consistency in delivery and comparative learning experiences.  In one of my roles as an external examiner, I review assessments and delivery for a collaborative partner in Malta.

Current Activities/Links with Industry

I am passionate about exchanging knowledge with both students and corporate clients which I am able to facilitate in my work with the Executive Education Team. I am currently working on the Rolls-Royce Leadership Development Programme, where I deliver a range of topics from high-performance working cultures, through to leadership and organisational transformation. Being able to engage and explore current challenges provides a wealth of knowledge and experience which I share with my students.

In addition, as the CIPD Lead for the Business School, I actively engage with the local CIPD Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire branch to explore current HR practice and engage with contemporary issues with People Professionals from across the region. I actively encourage students to engage with the local branch activities and develop their networks to support them in their career development.
