About

I am a Senior Lecturer in Policing Studies, working at One Friar Gate Square. I work across the department, teaching on both the undergraduate and postgraduate Policing programmes.

For many of the Policing postgraduate students, this is their first experience of higher education. My personal commitment to help them comprehend how academic study can underpin and develop their professional practice is a golden thread that runs throughout the programmes I support.

Teaching responsibilities

My primary responsibility is that of Module Leader on the University's MSc Police Leadership, Strategy and Organisation. This is a groundbreaking programme, designed to meet the specific needs of the UK Policing sector. Many of the MSc students are serving police officers seeking progression through the ranks. I also teach on two undergraduate programmes - BSc Professional Policing and the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme.

Additionally, I am an Associate Lecturer supporting work-based-learning programmes across the wider College of Business, Law and Social Sciences.

Professional interests

I am interested in all aspects of Policing, with particular focus on how the police service is led and managed in the 'post-austerity' era. My focus as a tutor is that of how to bring students' work-based experiences into the classroom.

I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This professional interest enables me to draw on the CMI's resources and capability in support of the University's programmes.
