About

I have been a registered nurse for many years with a range of experience including as a Specialist Practitioner in practice nursing, health promotion and more recently an Advanced Practitioner working as a bone health specialist community nurse and research assistant at the University of Nottingham. I am currently the Programme Leader for the Postgraduate Certificate in Osteoporosis and Falls Management; a distance learning programme for clinicians working in practice, designed to improve their skills in practice, related to falls prevention and osteoporosis. In addition I also provide support to the DXA Reporting Programme am the Module Leader for a level 7 Research Skills for Evidence Based Practice [MSc pre-registration]. My role also involves liaising with other tutors on different programmes in order to enhance students learning and academic progression.

Teaching responsibilities

As the programme leader for the distance learning Postgraduate Certificate in Osteoporosis and Falls Management, I mainly support students, using online resources, provided via the virtual learning environment Blackboard Ultra, together with online and telephone tutorial support, as required by the individual student. I currently facilitate two optional study days per semester for the osteoporosis and falls core modules. There are also two other optional modules which I am responsible for with regard to this qualification.

My teaching responsibilities also include teaching research methods and methodology at both level 6 and level 7 to radiography and ultrasound pre registration students.

Research interests

I am particularly interested in research related to falls and osteoporosis and have been completed a service evaluation regarding a multi-disciplinary approach to supporting patients with osteoporosis medication adherence, which received a significant amount of interest within my clinical practice.

I have been involved in a process evaluation as part of a research team, which was one element of a national randomised controlled trial relating to falls prevention for older people living in care homes.

I am still planning on completing small research projects in relation of falls and osteoporosis
