About

I am a Lecturer in Strength and Conditioning at the School of Human Sciences. My undergraduate and post-graduate studies were completed at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, where I also completed a post-doctoral fellowship

My combination of tertiary and non-tertiary based educational experiences has ensured that I have a good mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. I have always espoused to the model that practice needs to be evidence-based and my higher postgraduate degrees have taught me the value of the scientific method to enhance our understanding of performance and ensuring individual health and well-being.

Furthermore, I believe in taking an individual and specific approach in terms of conditioning largely because it is well known that individual variability impacts not only adaptations to training but also, sporting performance.

Teaching responsibilities

I am currently module leader for the following modules:

I also have supervision commitments to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Research interests

Currently, my research interests lie in determining the workloads/training loads associated with team-based intermittent sports and how this links to injury risk and performance. It is also important from this perspective to examine the strength and conditioning practices that are being implemented for these types of sport; this is a secondary area that I find interesting. The primary sports that I examine are cricket and rugby and have worked with a number of elite teams in this regard.
