I am a Fashion and Textiles Technician based at Chandos Pole Street, Markeaton Street site. I joined the University of Derby in September 2016 specialising in pattern cutting and construction, whilst supporting the textiles department in knit and weave.

I have a fashion design and creative consultancy business 6.2 Design Company, offering private fashion tuition, consultancy services and business training to private clients and independent designers, with over 15 years of experience in fashion design, creative pattern cutting, garment construction, beauty, styling and business development. I deliver creative business mentoring and fashion workshops in Nottingham and Derby.

I have an eponymous independent clothing label HARRIET KJELLMAN inspired by Scandinavian appreciation for simplicity and high quality design that was awarded The Second Place Runner Up in the Emerging Designer category at the 2017 Midlands Fashion Awards.

Teaching responsibilities

Main responsibilities include delivering support to staff and students in all aspects of garment development and construction in fashion and textiles.

Research interests

My MA research project Investigation into Sustainable and Economical Patter Cutting Techniques for an Emerging Brand focused on developing effective pattern cutting techniques for the industry, which are actively applied and developed in my practise. My aspiration is to continue enhancing the developed processes whilst incorporating digital pattern cutting and sustainable techniques for more efficient results.
