Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging (Ultrasound)

Teaching responsibilities

As a lecturer on the MSc Medical Ultrasound programme, my main teaching responsibilities are as the module leader for the General Medical Ultrasound module and the Focussed Specialist Ultrasound Practice (FSUP) modules. I also assist in the teaching of the Obstetric Ultrasound, Gynaecological Ultrasound and Prinicples of Medical Ultrasound modules as well as assist with teaching sessions on the BSc (Hons) and MSc Diagnostic Radiography, primarily around Ultrasound.

In addition, I am the MSc Medical Ultrasound Simulation Lead, the Admissions lead for the MSc Medical Ultrasound programmes and am the Advancing Practice module lead which is part of the MSc Advanced Practice programme.

Professional interests

Particular interests in General Medical, Gynaecology and Vascular ultrasound. however I am also interested in paediatrics, head and neck and bowel Ultrasound.

Experience in industry

I have worked within the NHS for 25 years. After 4 years as a Diagnostic Radiographer, I undertook further education to become a General Medical Sonographer. Over the last 21 years, I have trained in and perform a wide variety of Ultrasound examinations including General Medical, Vascular, Gynaecology, small parts, paediatrics, renal transplants and bowel scans.  I have also been Superintendent Sonographer responsibile for the daily management of a busy department.

Whilst working at the University of Derby, I have maintain my clinical skills by working as an Advanced Ultrasound Practitioner at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This enables me to remain up to date and provides currency to my teaching.
