About

I am the Programme Lead for FdSc Nursing Associate (Direct Entry) and PG CERT Critical Care Nursing (Adult).

I have worked within the School of Health and Social Care since joining the University in 2018, teaching and developing a range of modules and programmes.

I particularly enjoy the rich diversity of students these programmes attract and enjoy supporting students through their programme recognising there can be challenges along the way. I have completed an MSc in Performance Science, whereby I conducted primary research exploring musical self-care with student nursing associates.

Teaching responsibilities

I currently teach on the research and anatomy and physiology modules within the nursing associate programme, as well as teaching the minor injuries module on the B700 programme and supervising MSc students. I am developing and teaching on the PG CERT Critical Care Nursing programme.

Professional interests

I am a Registered Nurse and musician (flute and piano), I am passionate about how music and improve health and wellbeing.

I have completed a unique course, "Musicians in Care Settings", a training course in collaboration with the charity Lost Chord UK, the RCM and the Nightingale care home, I studied the art of engaging with residents, programme planning and devising interactive music sessions, thus regularly performing music in a London care home and the Royal London hospital.  https://youtu.be/2E-j6SBZQ5U?si=HOGiMMAJAiUd54xP

I have observed first hand how much music can have a positive impact on emotions, motivation, connections, wellbeing and behaviours and I feel privileged to be in a position whereby I can help to bring positive change to people’s lives through music.

Research interests

I have completed an MSc in Performance Science at the Royal College of Music. During my studies, I conducted primary research on the topic of musical self-care with student nursing associates. I wish to pursue the connection of health and music within a PhD.
