About

As a Research Professor, my role involves mentoring research-active colleagues in producing and disseminating high-quality research for the benefits of the individuals and society at large. My scholarship in sustainability research, tourism & healthcare has attained particular distinction & influence with prestigious international awards e.g., top 1% most-cited scientists 2021 – Clarivate; top 2% Stanford most-cited scientists 2021. In previous years, I have also been recognised for research excellence in Australia - Australia's top 40 researchers with career<10 years -Australia’s best 5 performers from Business, Economics & Management (1 of the 8 main disciplines in Australia), and teaching and research excellence in India and Taiwan. I have been honoured with the prestigious global Emerging Scholar of Distinction award from the International Academy for the study of Tourism for my substantial contribution to ground-breaking and innovative research in tourism.

I have been a successful recipient of collaborative interdisciplinary research grants working closely with industry partners including the National Research Council of Italy, Norway Research Council, Australia Department of Foreign Trade & Affairs, Corporate Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities, Parks Canada, Indian Ocean Rim Association, and other industry and academic institutions nationally and in Europe, Australia, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Research interests

My current research interests include sustainable tourism, pro-environmental behaviour, place attachment, authenticity, health tourism, corporate social responsibility and cultural heritage management, digital business innovation and public health, wellbeing and quality of life. I have published widely with over 140 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, co-edited special issues, conference reviews, book reviews, conference proceedings and technical reports. My research has been published in leading journals in tourism and hospitality including Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Management, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Journal of Business Research, Tourism Analysis, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, and in health and psychology journals.

I have received media coverage for my scholarship in tourism and place attachment research. I have had the pleasure of working with journalists to provide expert advice on tourism and sustainability issues. I was commended for research excellence in tourism studies in the international media. I look forward to my further contributions.
