About

Gavin manages and facilitates the Additive Manufacturing resources at IISE. He provides support and advice for students, colleagues and industrial partners on how best to implement these resources within the research and development projects delivered by the Institute.

Gavin has a background in industrial design and has extensive experience in 2D and 3D CAD, CAM, rapid prototyping, 3D scanning and reverse engineering.

Professional interests

Gavin’s aim is to continue to develop his skills in additive manufacturing techniques and seek novel applications for these technologies as they become more integrated into all aspects of the design and manufacture process.

Experience in industry

Before joining IISE Gavin spent over 10 years at Loughborough University obtaining a degree in Industrial Design and Ph.D. in Design Ergonomics, investigating the integration of anthropometric data into CAD/CAM methods to manufacture PPE with an enhanced fit for the user.

He has held Research Associate and Post-Doctoral Research positions at the Loughborough Design School and Sports Technology Institute collaborating with a range of industrial partners, including the UK Ministry of Defence, DSTL, UK Sport, BAE Systems, McLaren Applied Technologies, Remploy Healthcare and Hozelock.
