About

From 1987 to 2003, I was the managing director of a Canadian software firm that specialised in bespoke database-driven business applications, particularly inventory systems and employee scheduling.

I am proud to be a computer programmer with over thirty years' experience in BASIC, 6502 and VAX assembly language, TSO CLIST, PL/I, OS/360 JCL, xBASE, Pascal and Delphi, Forth, C, C++, APL, SAS, SQL, PHP, Java, Javascript and C# on Apple II, MVS/TSO, DEC VAX/VMS, MSDOS, Unix, Linux, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Since 2003, I've been a lecturer in Computing at the University of Derby, and have developed and led programmes in Computing, Information Technology, and Computer Science.

Teaching responsibilities

I teach programming, databases, software engineering, and technical teamwork.

Research interests

My main research interest is in database languages.  I am the lead developer of an open source implementation of Date & Darwen's Tutorial D database language, called Rel, which you can learn more about or download from http://reldb.org
