Senior Lecturer in Professional Writing and Scriptwriting

Teaching responsibilities

I teach on the BA (Hons) Creative & Professional Writing degree, and have been teaching at Derby for more than 10 years.

Professional interests

I have 25 years experience as a journalist, working on national and regional newspapers and magazines.  I was a member of the Sunday Sentinel team that won the Regional Newspaper of the Year award in 2001.  I have also written comedy for TV and radio, for such shows as Tommy Cooper at Large, Weekender, and The News Huddlines.   I ran a film production company making comedy films as corporate team-building events for multi-national companies.

Research interests

My research interests include Transmedia storytelling, News as modern-day myth-making, and Satire as a political weapon.  I am particularly interested in why politicians make poor comedians, and why comedians make excellent politicians.
