Research interests

My research interests include Transmedia and immersive storytelling, News as modern-day myth-making, and Satire as a political weapon. I am particularly interested in why politicians make poor comedians, and why comedians make excellent politicians. My other research interests include developing virtual reality applications and material to stimulate imagination and creativity, and enabling communities and organisations to articulate their concerns and find practical solutions to their problems through writing and storytelling.

Experience in industry

I was a journalist on national and regional newspapers and magazines for 25 years before turning to corporate communications coaching and higher education teaching. I have worked in many roles, ranging from news reporter and feature writer, to production editor and deputy editor. I was a member of the Sunday Sentinel team that won the Regional Newspaper of the Year award in 2001. I have also written comedy for television and radio, and ran a film production company making comedy films as corporate team-building events.
