I have been associated with the University of Derby since 1995 as both a member of staff and a student. I completed both my Masters and Doctoral studies at the University.

At the present time I am Assistant Discipline Lead for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the focus for this role is managerial supporting my colleagues who are involved with programme delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

I am responsible for Programme Leading the BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy Principles and Practice and I teach on modules across the programme.

Aside from these two roles I am also involved in supervising PhD students on the doctoral programme for Health and Social Care.

Research interests

My long term ongoing research interest is concerned with coercive control in organised Christian religion from a feminist perspective as this was a central tenant of my Doctoral research.

I have also led undergraduate students in research around therapeutic interventions for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing producing a number of resources for use in primary school settings. Mental health in children and young people in educational settings remains a strong research interest.

Experience in industry

Aside from Higher Education I have worked as a Psychotherapist in a variety of settings, including:

For several years I was the nominated translator for HM Coroner for Nottingham, translating autopsies from Spanish to English.

International experience

From 2013 to 2016 I was the international link for the Universidad CEU San Pablo, Madrid, assisting the University to set up Educational placements between Madrid and UK HE institutions. I established several successful links during my time in this role as well as furthering my own knowledge and experience of the workings of the Spanish Higher Education system through exchange visits.
