Course description

With the aim of improving fuel economy and emissions, the highlight of material selection has been on light weighting in the transport industry (automotive, aerospace and the rail sector). The process of modifications to the design and the material selection can help to reduce the weight of a product. To aid with such processes, Granta Design provides the software CES (Cambridge Engineering Selector) although any other CAD (Computer Aided Design) software can be used for the product design such as Solidworks. This short course is delivered by experts with application experience in this field of technology. CES capabilities will be demonstrated and participants will leave the course with a greater understanding of light weight material and their properties.

The 4 hour short course will familiarise you with the process of material selection, offer a greater understanding of light-weight materials and their properties. This addresses the different ways of opting for light weighting ranging from changes in original design to changes in the material itself with similar or better properties. Light weighting will help in reducing carbon emission in the transport industry and that is one reason as to why the companies in these industries are opting for light weighting.
