Course description

This workshop allows you to develop a greater understanding of 3D scanning and reverse engineering, using some of the most advanced equipment available. The course is ideal if you have a physical part/item but no drawing or CAD and you would like to learn more about how you reproduce the part or how you can modify it.

Reverse engineering provides important insights into the design and architecture of man-made objects in order to extract knowledge from the object. 3D scanning can be a great complementary tool as it can analyse the real-world object or environment, collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance, and the collected data can then be used to construct digital 3D models.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course you will:

Reverse engineering and 3D printing/scanning are one of the research expertise areas within our Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (IISE). Some of the most advanced reverse engineering and 3D scanning equipment available and relevant methods will be demonstrated. The application of skills learnt on this course also opens up opportunities for potential third-stream income generation.

Entry requirements

The course is ideally suited to designers, engineers and technical managers.
