Annual Report on Research Integrity (2019-2020)

Background

The University of Derby has, by virtue of its membership of Universities UK, agreed to adhere to the commitments of the Universities UK Concordat to Support Research Integrity (2019), to which this report is part.

1. Summary of actions and activities

Summary of actions and activities that have been undertaken to support and strengthen understanding and the application of research integrity issues.

How the University considers research ethics has been revised. This includes the:

Our Academic Board has approved a University Responsible Metrics Statement and associated implementation strategy with the aim of the University signing the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in 2021.

Our Academic Board has approved a research data management policy.

Research ethics, governance and integrity have been embedded in the University’s 2020-30 Innovation and Research Strategy and Learning and Teaching Strategy.

The Researcher Development Programme includes training in research ethics, governance, and integrity.

2. Research Misconduct

The University has a Research Misconduct Policy and associated procedures that provides a transparent, timely, robust and fair approach to dealing with with allegations of misconduct. It will be reviewed as part of the University’s normal governance cycle.

There have been no formal investigations of research misconduct during academic year 2019-2020.

To support the reporting of instances of research misconduct, the University has policies and procedures, as well as training and guidance. This was further enhanced during 2019-2020 with the developments outlined in Section 1.
