Postgraduate Research Student

Brett's current PhD project follows directly on from his degree’s third-year independent study project focusing on how the palaeontology in Malta can help us understand modern climate change. 

Associate Professor (Research) in Audio Engineering

Dr Bruce Wiggins teaches in our Audio Engineering disciplines. He focuses on immersive audio and digital signal processing. His research in immersive audio has led to international impact outside of academia, and was highlighted in our Research Excellence Framework exercises in both 2014 and 2022.

Senior Lecturer in BSc (Hons) Sound, Light and Live Event Engineering

Before joining the University in 2019 Jon had a long career in the music industry, working as a sound engineer, primarily in live concert touring. Since joining the University of Derby Jon now teaches on the BSc (Hons) in Sound, Light and Live Event Technology as well as the MSc in Audio Engineering.

Senior Lecturer in Physiology

As a Senior Lecturer in Physiology, Callum Osler is involved in teaching, student supervision and research within the Sport and Exercise Science discipline area. His research has primarily focused on understanding the control of human balance.

Callum is a postgraduate research student who is researching the impact of teaching strategies to enhance social cognition within young children.

Senior Lecturer in English Language

Dr Cara Penry Williams a Lecturer in English Language. As well as teaching undergraduate students, Cara researches topics in sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. I am available for PhD supervision on topics related to my expertise.

Carl is an artist and Senior Lecturer on BA (Hons) Fine Art. His practice-based PhD, From Hybridity to Synthesis: Positioning Painting in the Digital Age asks whether it is possible to synthesise material-based painting with photography and the digital.

Carley Foster is a Professor of Services Marketing and Head of the Centre for Business Improvement at the University of Derby. Her work is widely published, has been funded by several organisations and, as an applied researcher, she works with business to create impact.

Senior Lecturer in Ergonomics and Human Factors

Dr Carlos Aceves-Gonzalez is a Senior Lecturer in Ergonomics and Human Factors. His research and teaching are fundamentally motivated by helping students integrate the systems approach into their practice to improve systems performance and people's well-being. He also encourages international collaboration to enhance healthcare quality and patient safety.  

Senior Lecturer in Psychology

Caroline teaches a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules on our Psychology programmes. She supervises PhD students and is an active researcher. Caroline's research is focused on two broad areas and she leads on research concerning compassion in higher education and also works as part of a team that are interested in the links between nature and wellbeing.

We have around 300 research-active staff at Derby and 400 doctoral students. They are investigating subjects as diverse as cybercrime, Long Covid, mental health, biomedical science, greener forms of transport, and asylum seekers' experiences. Learn more about our people and their research.
