We have around 300 research-active staff at Derby and 400 doctoral students. They are investigating subjects as diverse as cybercrime, Long Covid, mental health, biomedical science, greener forms of transport, and asylum seekers' experiences. Learn more about our people and their research.

Lecturer in Environmental Social Science and Human/Development Geography

Dr Debadayita (Deb) Raha is a lecturer in Human and Developmental Geography at the University of Derby. Her research interests lie in the multidisciplinary field of social science and environmental impact on people's lives. She has previously worked at the University of Nottingham looking at whole systems analysis of small scale renewable energy for rural communities in UK and India.

Head of Discipline Environmental Sciences

Andrew is an ecologist and conservation biologist and teach these specialisms at undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is a Programme Leader for Zoology and supervises a range of PhD students. Andrew is also the research lead for 'Eco-sustainability and evolution' in the University of Derby's 'Environmental Sustainability Research Centre'.

Professor Stephan Reiff-Marganiec is a Professor in Computer Science and the Head of Computing, a discipline in the College of Science and Engineering.

As an Associate Professor in Learning and Teaching, Dr Ribchester supports colleagues in the implementation of key strategies related to learning, teaching and assessment. Carl is an artist and Senior Lecturer on BA (Hons) Fine Art. His practice-based PhD, From Hybridity to Synthesis: Positioning Painting in the Digital Age asks whether it is possible to synthesise material-based painting with photography and the digital.

Dr Clare Roscoe is an Associate Professor in Physical Activity and Health. She is actively involved in research around the area of physical activity and fundamental movement skills in preschool and primary school-aged children.

Dr Reza Safari is a Research Fellow in Health and Social Care at the University of Derby. His area of research is in prosthetics and orthotics with a special interest in advanced manufacturing of prosthesis and orthosis, applied health research, systematic review and meta-analysis, and management and rehabilitation of long term neuromuscular conditions.
