Supporting our researchers

We provide expertise and support throughout a researcher's career to help them achieve their research ambitions.

Funding and grant applications

We support the development of funding opportunities and collaboration to strengthen research and impact through public engagement, partnerships and regional and business engagement opportunities.

We can help you to navigate the funding landscape, advise on appropriate internal and external funding opportunities and support your research in identifying career-stage specific opportunities, including our Early-Career Development Fund.

Researcher development

We offer training and development programmes for all research staff and specific support for our early-career researchers. Our skills and development programme for doctoral students supports them to successfully complete their PhD and prepare for their future careers.

Quality and impact

As an applied university, we help our researchers achieve real impact in the wider world by making positive changes to industry, public services or the wider society. We have a strong culture and track record of successful collaboration with organisations of all shapes and sizes.

The Research and Knowledge and Exchange Office is also responsible for managing the University’s submissions to the Research Excellence Framework (REF), the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

Support from our library

Our library team offers training and support to both postgraduate research students and those who are established in their research career. They provide training on library systems along with information on how to get published, understanding research metrics and Open Access publishing including using the University repository, UDORA.

The Library has access to an extensive range of both printed and online resources, including over 50,000 journals and over 450,000 e-books. If an item (journal article, book, book chapter) you require for your research is not available from our collections, you can use our Inter Library Loans service.
