Physical activity is a key component in the management of type 1 and 2 diabetes, but still adults with either condition are insufficiently active. Patients view Healthcare Professionals (GPs, nurses, physiotherapists etc) as being vital in their attempts to be more physically active (Kime et al., 2018) and manage their condition. However, effective intervention strategies need to be investigated. The College of Life and Natural Sciences and Human Science Research Centre has an opportunity for a University Funded Full-Time Post Graduate Research Studentship entitled Investigating Healthcare Professional-led Physical Activity Promotion strategies for Patients/People with Diabetes. Specific details are provided in the supporting information.

The successful applicant will receive a stipend of £15,009 per annum for 3 years. The post also covers Home/EU PhD tuition fees for three years. Please note, if your application is successful and you are assessed as Overseas for fees purposes, you will need to pay the difference between the Home/EU fees and the Overseas fees.

The intended start date is March 2020, or the next available intake.

The successful applicant will be expected to complete their PhD within 3 years, contribute to future College REF submissions and get involved in the wider research activities of in the Department of Sport, Outdoor and Exercise Science and the College of Life and Natural Sciences at the University of Derby.

Applicants will become part of a friendly and welcoming team and will be supported and managed by their supervisory team.
