Evidence and Perspectives from Catalonia

This seminar brings together two perspectives on the current and future landscape of career guidance in Catalonia. Dr. Màrius Martínez-Muñoz will address the implications of the new Decree law on career guidance and present findings from a recent research project diagnosing the state of career guidance provision across basic education in Catalonia.

Drawing on his extensive academic and leadership experience, he will situate these developments within broader educational and policy frameworks. Marc Martínez-Pons will share insights from his doctoral research, which examines how career guidance is implemented in public single-structure schools (ISCED 0–2). His work highlights both the academic outcomes and the inclusion processes shaped by guidance practices in early and compulsory education.

About the Presenters

Dr. Martínez-Muñoz is Lecturer in Vocational Guidance at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he has taught since 1992. He has held several senior academic and leadership positions, including Head of Studies for the Bachelor in Social Education (1993–1999), Dean of the Faculty of Education (2002–2006), and Vice-Rector for International Relations (2016–2023). He also served as President of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (2021–2024) and as a member of the Catalonia School Council (2004–2006). His research focuses on career and educational guidance, particularly outside the university sector.
