Associate Professor of Childhood

Dr Ruby Oates is Associate Professor of Childhood in the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation. Her doctoral thesis focused on the early childhood workforce. Ruby's most recent research is a staff and undergraduate student collaborative project evaluating children's views on outdoor play spaces.

Senior Lecturer in Leadership Development

Fred leads the Low Carbon Business Network that provides business development opportunities to pro-environmental SMEs. He teaches on the postgraduate leadership residential, MBA Research Methods and various sustainable business related sessions. Fred also coordinates the Sustainable Business and Green Economy Research Cluster and supervises PhD and MBA dissertation students.

Programme Leader - BA (Hons) Business Studies and Senior Lecturer - Business and Management

As Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Business Studies programme, Olivia Ramsbottom is responsible for the success and progression of students, giving academic advice and pastoral support, as well as for recruitment, retention and student satisfaction.  She is also a Senior Lecturer, with teaching responsibilities across Derby Business School.

Dr Rosemary Shepherd is a Senior Lecturer in the Institutute of Education who specialises in the teaching, learning and assessment of higher education students, with an emphasis on disabled students. 

Senior Lecturer in Psychology

As a part-time Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Dr Simon Sherwood teaches on a variety of foundation and undergraduate psychology modules. He is interested in the psychology of the paranormal, with a particular interest in hauntings and apparitions and experimental investigations of dream ESP.

Simon Smith is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the MBA Global and MBA Global Finance Part-Time. Prior to working in academia he was a senior manager in the semiconductor industry and continues to work with many organisations today, with a focus on improving business operations. 

Lecturer in Biological and Forensic Anthropology (Forensic Science)

As Lecturer in Biological and Forensic Anthropology, Nivien is interested in the living person behind the skeleton. As broadly trained bioarchaeologist and anthropologist, her research and teaching draws from bioanthropology, palaeopathology, archaeology and social theory, bridging the disciplines and exploring bodies and identities in past as well as forensic contexts.
