Higher Education Research Network (HERN)

A network for academics and students interested in HE policy

What we do

HERN is one of many research centres for the study of higher education and higher education pedagogy set up in response to changes within the sector. Serving as a locus for critical commentary on the current direction of higher education HERN’s existence is a testimony to the fact that some universities uphold one value that has always defined the university – the willingness to accept disagreement and dissent.

Research by current HERN members includes exploring academic freedom, censorship and a broad range of higher education issues. HERN draws its membership from across the University of Derby and welcomes individual members and links with other centres and institutions in the UK and globally.
