Real world learning

As part of the international hospitality management masters course, you will be involved in consultancy work with our industry partners who regularly collaborate with us including Hilton International, Skibo Castle, Gleneagles and Marriott Hotels.

We offer a range of events and activities including guest speakers from industry, employer days and the chance to work on real-life problems where you'll combine theory and practice and develop the skills and confidence you need to fast track your career.

Our passionate, award-winning academic team are experienced scholars and leading practitioners in the hospitality industry. They are active members of national and international professional bodies such as the Institute of Hospitality and research networks such as ENAT, EDeAN, ATLAS, CHME.

Placement 

Study full time and you have the option to include an integrated work placement of up to 12 months as part of your international hospitality management Masters qualification. By choosing this option you will study your Independent Scholarship module 'on-the-job', allowing you to research real-world issues faced by your company.

If you are not currently employed, we can support you to find a suitable placement. Placements often lead to permanent employment opportunities.

Study while you earn

Our teaching and learning strategy allow you to study while you remain in employment. You'll complete 'blended learning modules' where most of your learning is undertaken online with the support of module tutors.

Independent Scholarship - on this module you will develop your analytical and critical skills while investigating in detail a service sector topic of your choice. Independent study forms the entire Masters stage of the programme.

How you will learn

The teaching and learning methods used are diverse and may include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, practical fieldwork exercises and online learning materials. Assessments include briefing reports, pitches, presentations, essays, unseen examinations, and case studies.

Dr Iride Azara is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events, and an active researcher across several University research groups and internationally recognised research associations. Dr Azara has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate MSc programme management in Tourism, Events and Hospitality.

Teaching hours

Like most universities, we operate extended teaching hours at the University of Derby, so contact time with your lecturers and tutors could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. Your timetable will usually be available on the website 24 hours after enrolment on to your course.
