Case study - Synika Lewis video transcript

My name is Synika Lewis, I'm from the Caribbean, from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

I studied my Masters in Hospitality Management.

My experience at the University of Derby has been quite amazing, being an international. You focus on international students and have the opportunity to meet different people from all over the world.

The main reason that I choose to study the course, it was because it was, I think it was number one for international students and, coming from the Caribbean, I think it would have been a great way for me to meet other people from all over the world and I fell in love with the pictures. The Dome is absolutely amazing.

So the impact studying at the Uni had on my career, I went to Gleneagles just for six months just to do a placement and I have since transitioned to the role that I want to grow which is front office. So, coming from the Uni, having started from the Uni from Gleneagles, there is a level of trust that they know exactly what they're going to get from me because, you know, Gleneagles and the Uni have been together for such a long time.

So it was quite rewarding been able to transition into a different role without any doubts from my managers or anything of that sort being where I came from.

There is so much amazing opportunities here at Buxton and the University. You get to be in contact with people from all over the world.

The lecturers are very hands on, the classrooms are not too large, not too big, so you don't feel like you get lost in between, in between your studies.

There's a great support system even during and after your Uni life so the whole experience itself it's quite rewarding. It's a great step into your career.

There's tons of stuff that you can do while at Uni and after just by coming to the University of Derby.
