University to host HEA MOOC workshop for healthcare disciplines

The University is to host a HEA MOOC workshop called ‘Making Magical MOOCs’ on 11 July 2016. Open to HEA Fellows the workshop will look at all aspects of developing and delivering successful Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

Following the success of their Dementia MOOC ‘Bridging the Dementia Divide’, David Robertshaw, Academic Lead for Health and Social Care and Pauline Green, Academic Lead in Social Care and Social Work at the University of Derby Online Learning will be running a series of workshops during which delegates will work with experts from a range of areas including big data, MOOC development and innovation and research in MOOCs.

The aims of the workshops are to help delegates to develop a strategy for MOOC development and to equip them with valuable skills required for the design and delivery of MOOCs. Delegates will learn about: 

  • how to manage and develop student engagement in MOOCs
  • opportunities for innovation within MOOCs
  • the role of research in underpinning MOOC development
  • designing MOOCs for impact
  • quality assurance considerations and implications

Attendance at the workshop is free. Places are limited so early booking is advisable.
