Dr Simon Bignell
Dr Simon Bignell is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Psychology in the Department of Life Sciences, University of Derby, UK. He has a PhD from Essex University that explored ‘Children’s Language Skills and ADHD’ and a degree in Psychology from Sussex University. He has led several innovative projects and conducted pedagogical and developmental research looking at the language skills of children with conditions such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Simon Bignell specialises in Developmental and Cyberpsychology and has been nominated for the UK’s Times Higher Education ‘Most Innovative Teacher of the Year’ Award and is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation in learning.
He regularly appears on British and international media such as the BBC, ITV and CNN. He has won several research grants and published in academic books, encyclopaedias and journals such as the British Journal of Developmental Psychology and the British Journal of Educational Psychology. He has also delivered keynote lectures at British and international conferences. Other responsibilities have included reviewing of research grants and academic journals, and Conference Editor for the British Psychological Society’s monthly magazine The Psychologist. He has taught in several Universities and worked with people across the autistic spectrum as well as training future GPs about children’s developmental conditions.
Dr Bignell has taught and updated Derby University’s popular undergraduate module ‘Autism, Asperger’s & ADHD’ since he created it in 2006. He also leads Derby’s final year specialist module ‘Psychology in Education’.
